Will Humans Become Machines?

Back in the 1970’s ‘The Six Million Dollar Man’ was one of television’s more popular shows. Nearly forty years later there are some who think that television and real life could become one.

Among those people are inventor and futurist Ray Kurzweil, who say in 90 years our bodies could be replaced by machines.

“We’re going to become increasingly non-biological to the point where the non-biological part dominates and the biological part isn’t that important anymore,” Kurzweil said. “We can create bodies with nanotechnology. We can create virtual bodies.”

Kurzweil also says that by the year 2045 we'll be uploading our entire minds to computers, a process that’s called ‘Singularity.’ Matthew Kazmierczak of Tech America told KTRH let's not just write this off as crazy talk.

“There are possibilities of some aspects of this happening. I don’t know about an uploading of your entire self. But, we will advance quickly,” Kazmierczak said.

Kazmierczak says it’s more reasonable to think that technology could help people with physical difficulties.

“For folks that may be blind, can’t hear or have lost a limb. All of these things could be instances where technology could help them,” Kazmierczak explained.

But while Kurzweil is talking about a time in which humans will be immortal, Kazmierczak says it's simply about improving the quality of life and aging gracefully.
