Texas Could Become Battleground

The effort to turn Texas ‘Blue” seems to be gaining some momentum, and some state Republicans warn the party isn’t taking the threat seriously enough.

Attorney General Greg Abbott sounded the alarm weeks ago, calling the effort by Battleground Texas officials a greater threat to Texas than North Korea. Apostle Claver Kamau-Imani of Raging Elephants tells KTRH he's afraid state Republicans are getting too comfortable.

“There is a complacency there,” Kamau-Imani said. “It is going to be a battle for the Republicans to be able to hold their strong majorities. They are going to need grass roots support.”

Kamau-Imani says Democrats have a simple formula for getting this done.

“They are going to have to turn a lot of Caucasian voters Democratic. They are going to have to have a severe registration drive in communities of color and get them out to vote,” Kamau-Imani stated.

He says it might not happen until 2022 or 2024, but that it could happen if Republicans take their foot off the gas pedal. Kamau-Imani does have a plan for state party leaders to keep the advantage they have enjoyed for decades.

“They are going to have to have a no compromise, no surrender approach to many of the issues that are important to Conservative, grass roots voters. They are going to have to make that message palatable for those that are in the communities of color,” Kamau-Imani explained.

KTRH tried to reach out to officials with Battleground Texas, but they did not return our calls.
