Texans To Announce New Head Coach Today

The Texans are expected to formally announce Bill O'Brien this morning as the third head coach in team history. Analysts say his work at Penn State has him in high demand.

Sportstalk 790 host Matt Thomas says O'Brien took the Penn State gig in the aftermath of the Jerry Sandusky sex scandal.

"He had scholarship reductions; he had no postseason for his teams and basically a terrible stigma and he returned Penn State to respectability in a very short period of time."

Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips says he'd like to stay on but Thomas says that's unlikely.

"Most people like to bring in their own staff. I'd be stunned if Wade Phillips was retained."

O'Brien has NFL experience as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots from 2007 to 2011.
