Security Increased for HS Football Games

Deer Park Independent School District (DPISD) beefed up security at Abshier Stadium for their team’s game against the Spring Lions varsity team.

Fans, parents and students attending Friday night's football game saw increased police force throughout the stadium.  In the wake Wednesday’s fatal stabbing at Spring High School, D.P.I.S.D.’s spokesperson told our television partner Local 2 they added extra security officers inside the stadium and had Harris County Sheriff's deputies patrolling the parking lots for safety.

Not everyone was happy about Deer Park’s efforts to protect attendees at Friday night’s game.   Perry Irchirl, a Spring High School parent said he thought it was “overkill” for what he felt was an “isolated event with some kids fighting."  Another parent Sara Alvarado “It's a good idea… You never know what happens."  Spring went on the defeat Deer Park 31 to 28.
