NBA Bans Sterling For Life

NBA Bans Sterling For Life

The NBA has come down hard on Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling for racist comments he made during a conversation with his girlfriend earlier this month.

The punishment from Commissioner Adam Silver was a lifetime ban and a 2.5 million dollar fine. Silver is also trying to force Sterling to sell the club.

“We stand together in condemning Mr. Sterling’s views,” Silver announced. They simply have no place in the NBA.”

Many people agreed with the punishment that Silver announced. Former player Damon Jones, an analyst with CSN Houston, told KTRH the NBA did the right thing.

“It’s not going to be tolerated,” Jones said. What Silver did showed that these kinds of comments and feelings won’t be tolerated.”

But Apostle Claver Kamau-Imani of Raging Elephants told KTRH isn’t so sure the punishment fits the crime.

“This man’s property is being taken from him,” he told KTRH. “What did he do that was illegal? He did nothing that was illegal. He just happens to be mentally ill.”

Kamau-Imani says despite what Sterling’s views may be he is the exception, not the rule.

“This man is aberration, an anomaly. I do not believe there are vast numbers of people in this country that share his sentiment,” Kamau-Imani explained.

Sterling told Jim Gray of FOX News he has no plans to sell the team. Silver needs 22 of the 30 owners to vote Sterling out and says he has the support he needs.

“The views expressed by Mr. Sterling are deeply offensive and harmful,” Silver stated.

Hours after the punishment was announced, the Clippers beat Golden State 113-103 to take a 3-2 lead in their best-of-seven playoff series with the Warriors.
