More Floats, New Route at Houston Thanksgiving Parade

Big changes are in store for downtown Houston's Thanksgiving Day ParadeSusan Christian from the mayor's Special Projects Office says help from H-E-B and other big sponsors could make the 64th annual parade the biggest and best yet.

“We have doubled our floats, and we have tripled our balloons,” Christian tells KTRH News.

“Our first float of course is a brand new turkey float,” she says.  “So Tom Turkey will lead the parade, and the finale will of course be Santa Claus.”

The most noticeable change for parade goers will be that the route has shifted from the east side of downtown, to the west side.

“In fact, it will roll right down Smith Street, loop around to Walker and Milam,” says Christian.

Former Lamar High School student turned Broadway star Tommy Tune will serve as the parade's Grand Marshal.

Thursday's event kicks off at 9 am at the corner of Lamar and Smith.
