Two Houston area high school football teams competed for state championships, and both came up empty.
The Katy Tigers lost to Cedar Hill in the Class 6A Division II championship for the second time in three years. The Longhorns rallied from a double-digit halftime deficit to win 23-20 on a last second field goal.
Later in the day, Cypress Ranch lost the Class 6A Division I championship to Allen 47-16. Cy-Ranch was looking for its first state title, while Allen extended its winning streak to 43 games and claimed its third consecutive championship.
