Judge Rules in Favor of Cheerleaders Using Bible Verse on Banners

The court battle for a southeast Texas high school cheerleading squad appears to be over after a judge ruled in their favor.

The case revolved around the practice of putting bible verse and scripture on the large banners that the football team runs through when taking the field.  The school district stopped the practice and the Kountze High School Cheerleaders filed a lawsuit.

Judge Steven Thomas ruled that, "no law prohibits cheerleaders from using religious-themed banners at sporting events."

The Anti-Defamation League sees the ruling differently, "This decision flies in the face of clear U.S. Supreme Court rulings."

The Anti-Defamation League claims the bible verse on the banners conveys that the school promotes and supports one religion over another, "Not only is that inappropriate but the court should have found it unconstitutional."
