It's Never a Good Idea to Negotiate with Terrorists

Critics suspect the U.S. got less than nothing in its swap of five Taliban leaders at Gitmo for an American soldier who may have defected to the enemy. The White House has apparently changed the long held policy of not negotiating with terrorists.

Joan Newhaus Schaan is director of the Texas Security Forum.

"I think in the long run it is a very bad policy to ever negotiate with terrorists."

Terrorism expert Dr. Jeff Addicott agrees.

"The answer has to be that we don't negotiate and this individual should not have been swapped out because it encourages other of these Taliban people to capture civilians."

Dr. Addicott says the Obama administration is in over its head on issues like this and the President's departure from the White House can't come soon enough.
