Is Big Brother Coming To Your Workplace?

A program used to monitor students' progress studying e-books at a number of colleges -- including Texas A&M-San Antonio -- has some privacy advocates concerned. They worry the software will spread to office cubicles.

Scott Jaschik is an editor at insidehighered.com. He says CourseSmart uses analytics to confirm kids are reading the assigned material.

"Do they actually open the book? Do they spend more time on some pages than others?"

Some worry such software will spread to the workplace and Jaschik says it already did when the CEO of Yahoo put an end to telecommuting.

"She used their software to find out that a lot of people who were working remotely weren't logging into the system, so she questioned whether they were working."

CourseSmart insists -- for now -- its software is only used in classrooms.
