Still no charges against a Houston doctor accused of violating Texas' abortion laws.
Investigators continue to gather evidence from Dr. Douglas Karpen's clinic after three former employees last week blew the whistle on what they describe as gruesome crimes against newborn babies.
“There are state laws that guide how abortion facilities must operate, and our role is to inspect the facilities and make sure they are complying with the law,” says Carrie Williams with the Texas Department of State Health Services.
Williams tells KTRH News that Karpen's employees will be interviewed as part of the investigation.
“We'll be asking questions about what they see in the facility, and what steps they take to ensure that procedures are happening according to the facility's policies and procedures they have on file,” she says.
The Texas Medical Board says it too is looking into the matter despite criticism from pro-life groups who blame the board for not stepping in sooner.
The Harris County District Attorney's Office also is involved.
