Gulf Storm is a Reminder for Preparedness

This weekend's storm that popped up in the Gulf and fizzled out is a reminder that the Gulf coast doesn't always get advanced notice of impeding storms.

Forecasters called the storm that formed early Friday, Invest 92L since it wasn't strong enough to be called a tropical depression.  Had the storm continued to grow it could have hit the Houston area within two days.  Which would not have given much time to take appropriate action.

Harris County Judge Ed Emmett hopes people take the, not-so-close call to heart, "It could come up within 48 hours and suddenly be on us.  So we don't always get a week or ten days to watch the storm come across the Atlantic (ocean)."

Judge Emmett reminds people to make sure and have a hurricane kit, know your evacuation plans, and have supplies for riding out a storm if you are not in an evacuation zone.
