Multiple departments responded to a massive fire at a hotel that killed four firefighters and injured five more.
The five alarm fire started around noon at the Southwest Inn along the Southwest Freeway. The smoke from the fire slowed traffic on the Southwest Freeway, traffic at one point was backed up all the way to the Sam Houston.
The five-alarm fire had over 100 fire units on the scene with over 160 firefighters. The firefighters killed had entered the burning building looking for people trapped when the roof collapsed trapping them in the heavy black smoke.
These are the first Houston Fire Department death in five years.
