More digital billboards are popping up along Houston area freeways reminding residents the Atlantic hurricane season is just around the corner.
Galveston County Judge Mark Henry showed off one on the Gulf Freeway near La Marque Thursday. He calls it a coordinated effort to provide real-time information in case of an emergency.
"That's the beauty of this electronic billboard," Henry tells KTRH News. "The storm may be coming from a different direction and then all of a sudden it turns, and when it becomes a real threat we can have that billboard changed within minutes."
"As of today it is 15 days left until the official start hurricane season," he says. "One of our biggest challenges is keeping people engaged, and this will be very helpful in that endeavor."
"Clear Channel Outdoor actually came to us with this idea, we didn't know the technology was available," says Henry.
Clear Channel Outdoor offered the region 11 billboards free of charge to help reach up to 260,000 residents daily.
