A Precinct 6 Deputy Constable was killed in what police are calling a drunk driving accident on the Gulf Freeway in southeast Houston.
At 2:17 a.m. Sunday morning, a grey Dodge pickup was heading inbound on I-45 at a high rate of speed. Officials say the driver lost control, and the truck slammed into a retainer wall.
Police said both the driver and passenger were thrown from the truck, one over the side of the retainer wall to his death, below the freeway. He was an off-duty Deputy Constable. The second person thrown from the truck remains hospitalized, but is expected to survive.
Police say it's not clear who was driving at the time of the crash, but that there were signs of alcohol.
If investigators determine the victim in the hospital was driving drunk when the accident happened, he could face intoxication manslaughter charges.
