Controversy at LaMarque City Hall

Controversy at LaMarque City Hall

A two-term city councilwoman in LaMarque is censured, after she's caught on tape making racist remarks about the condition of the school board.

"It's not going to get any better until you get those blacks off the school board."

The husband of a political rival released audio of Councilwoman Connie Trube saying the school district has "gone to hell".  She takes ownership of her comments and defended them...

"... All you have to do is see the condition of the school district is in right now."

Trube tells our TV partner Local-2 that changes need to be made on the school board.  She was heard on the tape calling out one unnamed member:

"She really turned black.  She got on the school board with the rest of the blacks and they all just ganged up and that's why the school system has gone to hell."

Deanna Bethea's says her husband recorded the comments

"I actually ran for city council for District B.  And this all took place at the city hall parking lot during early voting."

Bethea was not challenging for Trube's council seat.  She and her husband are filing an official complaint with the US Attorney's office, claiming the controversial remarks create an environment that violates the civil rights of citizens.
