Consumers Have Another Sales Tax Holiday Coming Up

Texans buying appliances like air conditioners and dishwashers are expected to save up to 2-point-9 million dollars during this weekend’s Energy Star Sales Tax Holiday.

A spokesman for the Texas Comptroller’s Office, R.J. DeSilva, says this is the sixth year consumers will have all state and local sales taxes waived on purchases made between Saturday at 12:01 a.m. and Monday at 11:59 p.m.

What kinds of purchases are eligible?

“Air conditioners costing less than six thousand dollars, refrigerators priced less than two thousand dollars,” says DeSilva.  “Also Energy Star-rated ceiling fans, compact fluorescent light bulbs, dishwashers, dehumidifiers and clothes washers.”

And, you can really save twice.

“As consumers use these appliances down the road, (they will) save money on utility bills,” he explains, “because of lower energy consumption.”
