Child Predator Sweep Nabs 14 in SE Texas

Federal officials say a month-long enforcement dubbed "Operation iGuardian" helped capture 14 online child predators from an area stretching between Houston and Beaumont, down to Corpus Christi.  At least three victims were identified.

The arrests were among 255 nationwide, according to U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Homeland Security who warn a majority of child predators are not strangers.

“Eighty-nine percent of the time its a close family member, or close family friend, who is abusing the child,” says Special Agent in Charge Brian Moskowitz.  “Eight percent of the time its a teacher or coach, only three percent of the time is it a stranger.”

“If you're talking a kid, first I'd tell them it's never their fault,” he tells KTRH News.  “If they're not comfortable telling their parents, tell anyone.  Tell anyone until they hear you.”

Nearly 1,700 online predators have been arrested in the U.S. so far this year.
