British researchers claim they've come up with a computer model that can predict the weather three months in advance. If true, it'd certainly be of interest here in Houston, with hurricane season just around the corner.
Unfortunately, lead forecaster Jason Luze at Houston's Weather Research Center says it's more hype than science right now.
"Unfortunately we're early enough in the science process that this is still going through peer review; it's not even published in journals yet."
But Luze says it may well be promising and accurately predicting hurricanes would be huge.
"We forecast hurricane activity and we correlate that to the solar cycle and sun spot activity. It's quite interesting and it may very well be promising but actually being able to implement that in our forecasting right now is a bit far out."
Luze says don't wait for the forecast, be prepared for hurricane season before it arrives -- June 1st.
