Boycotting Shopping on Thanksgiving

Boycotting Shopping on Thanksgiving

Some shoppers say it's wrong to force retail workers to labor on Thanksgiving. So they say they're boycotting the stores that'll be open tomorrow.

Rice's Dr. Jill Foote says she personally agrees with those who are boycotting but she understands why the retailers are opening on Thanksgiving.

"This year there are six fewer days between Thanksgiving and Christmas than there are most years."

But Dr. Foote says the truth is most -- but not all -- Black Friday deals are more of an illusion than a bargain.

"Those bargains aren't really all that great for shoppers. They're just getting pulled into the stores by the big advertising."

Dr. Foote says you can get similar deals all year long if you pay attention to sales.
